Bowmore bottles 52-year-old whisky from 1965

Islay distillery Bowmore has launched “one of its rarest” whiskies to date – a 52-year-old single malt distilled in 1965.

Bowmore 1965 is said to have a character of “rich and balanced smoke”

With a price of £22,300 (US$28,600), Bowmore 1965 joins the distillery’s Vaults Series, which explores the characteristics of Bowmore whiskies that have been aged in its No.1 Vaults maturation warehouse – the oldest in Scotland.

Bowmore has released just 232 bottles of the whisky, which has been aged in Sherry oak casks and is said to display the “rich and balanced smoke, so distinctive of 1960s Bowmore whiskies”.

“This is the 3rd Bowmore release under my tenancy and is certainly one of the most remarkable whiskies we have produced during my time here,” said David Turner, manager of Bowmore Distillery.

“Bowmore 1965 demonstrates the rewards of our meticulous ageing process and showcases the quality of whiskies coming from our talented and dedicated distillery team.

“I have always been incredibly passionate about whisky and I have absolutely no doubt that the latest addition in our 50-year-old Vaults Series is sure to obtain legendary status among collectors and whisky enthusiasts alike.”

The expression is presented in a hand-blown glass bottle featuring silver decorations.

The first two bottles of Bowmore 1965 will be available from The Whisky Shop and Whisky Exchange from December 2018. Bowmore launched a 50-year-old whisky from 1966 last year.
