Dutch distillery releases inaugural whisky

Netherlands-based Eaglesburn Distillery has released its first whisky, which has been matured for three years in virgin oak casks and ex-Bourbon barrels.

Eaglesburn Distillery’s first whisky is a peated single malt

The first batch is a peated single malt whisky that was first aged in 10-litre virgin oak casks for 12-15 weeks before moving to 50-litre ex-Bourbon casks for the remainder of its three-year maturation period.

On the nose, the expression is said to offer notes of citrus fruit, plum, vanilla ice cream, apple strudel, cinnamon and green apple, along with a “pleasant smokiness”.

The palate is described as “creamy and filling” with light peppery notes, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg spice, as well as fruit flavours of plum, orange, and pineapple, with bitter tannins and a “surprising saltiness”.

The whisky, bottled at 47% abv, is initially available exclusively in the Netherlands at an RRP of €32.50 (US$37.30).
