Portobello Road Gin acquires The Distillery for £1m

Portobello Road Gin owner Good Harbour Trading has acquired the brand’s London home, The Distillery, for £1 million (US$1.3m).

Portobello Road Gin’s founders now own the brand’s London home, The Distillery

Situated at 186 Portobello Road, The Distillery is not only the working production site of Portobello Road Gin, it also houses gin-blending experience The Ginstitute, a bottle shop, two bars, a private dining room and three guest lodgings, all spread across four floors.

The acquisition of the site from hospitality group Leelex LTD comes as part of Portobello Road Gin’s “ambitious growth plans in the overseas markets”, after exports increased 300% over the last 12 months. The deal was completed on 11 September.

It also follows the recent launch of the brand’s second core expression earlier this year – Portobello Road Gin Navy Strength.

Tom Coates, Portobello Road Gin brand director, said: “Buying The Distillery is a significant milestone for Portobello Road Gin in what has been seven years of incredible growth for the brand.

“Originally crafted in a diminutive 30-litre still above a 19th-century drinking den in 2011, Portobello Road Gin is now available in 34 countries around the world, including 30 states across the USA and a recent listing at the LCBO in Canada, with exports increasing more than 300% year on year.

“The Distillery is the perfect brand home to entertain export markets and immerse overseas visitors in our brand story.

“The acquisition will allow us to further build the brand and invest in growing the distillery’s renowned portfolio of experiences and products, which includes The Ginstitute, The Distillery Presents…, immersive dinners, and The Distillery house spirits.”
