Pernod unveils ‘unconventional’ Allt-A-Bhainne whisky

5th September, 2018 by Nicola Carruthers

Pernod Ricard’s Scotch whisky arm Chivas Brothers has released a new single malt brand that aims to “shake up” the category, called Allt-A-Bhainne.

The new Allt-A-Bhainne single malt “goes against traditional Speyside conventions”

Allt-A-Bhainne combines the “smokiness of peat with the fruity sweetness” of Speyside.

The whisky aims to “push conventional boundaries to attract a whole new generation of drinkers”.

Bottled at 40% abv, the expression is described as having notes of soft red apples, sweet runny honey, delicate smoke and toffee, followed by a long, smoky, slightly dry and spicy finish.

The Allt-A-Bhainne distillery is based in Speyside and began distilling whisky in 1975. Liquid from the distillery has been used to produce the Chivas Regal blend.

The design of the bottle features geometric shapes and features an “energetic look” to honour the 70s style of the distillery.

Richard Clark, Allt-A-Bhainne master distiller, said: “We know that whisky drinkers have evolved. They are becoming more adventurous with their repertoire and want to try something new. That’s why we’ve decided now is the perfect time to launch Allt-A-Bhainne.

“Convention said we shouldn’t mix peat with Speyside and that smokiness and sweetness wouldn’t work together. But we followed our nose, distilled the whisky in the way we know and trust, and Allt-A-Bhainne is the result.

“It’s a match that might go against traditional Speyside conventions, but that’s something we’re not afraid to challenge.”

Allt-A-Bhainne is available in the UK at an RRP of £37 and will soon be rolled out in Australia.
