Bacardi campaigns for Mojito emoji

Whisky, wine and beer lovers can all express their preferred tipples with the click of an emoji, but if you’re partial to a Mojito you’re currently out of luck – something Bacardi is looking to change.

Bacardi is urging fans to support its campaign to create a Mojito emoji, or an ‘Emojito’

Ahead of National Rum Day on Thursday (16 August), Bacardi is calling on tech giant Apple to create a ‘Emojito’ for those who enjoy the rum-based libation.

Bacardi’s campaign comes in light of the fact that the Mojito is the UK’s most popular cocktail, according to the CGA’s Mixed Drinks Report published in April 2018.

To support the campaign, Bacardi is calling on rum and Mojito fans alike to show their support on social media this National Rum Day using the hashtag #MakeMineAnEmojito.

Shervene Shahbazkhani, UK head of advocacy at Bacardi, said: “With the Mojito being one of the best selling and most widely loved cocktails around, it only seems natural to add it to the emoji list.

“We’re surprised it doesn’t exist already and hope Apple consider it as a new addition after reading our letter.”

Ballantine’s led the campaign for a whisky emoji back in 2014, and its calls were answered in 2016 when the whisky glass symbol was added to the emoji list.
