Asda moves into pink gin

Asda is aiming to capitalise on the trend for pink and flavoured gins with the launch of three new products under its Extra Special line.

The new products include: Extra Special Elderflower & Pink Grapefruit Gin Liqueur (£12), Extra Special Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Liqueur (£12) and Extra Special Pink Gin (£16).

The expressions blend Asda’s Warrington-made Extra Special Gin with fruit liqueur made in Paris.

“Gin sales have increased by 80% year-on-year at Asda, with our customers now looking for flavoured gins that complement the warm weather perfectly,” said Helen Cook, Asda’s product development manager for spirits.

“We’ve seen several brands introduce pink and flavoured gins these last six months, so we’re excited to be introducing an own brand offering, providing quality bottles at an affordable price.”

The two liqueurs are available now, while Extra Special Pink Gin will launch next week.

Last year, Asda became the first UK supermarket to display The Vegan Society certification on its own-brand vodka.
