West Winds Gin seeks AU$3.5m investment

Australian distiller West Winds Gin has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise up to AU$3.5 million (US$2.64m) to help grow the company’s international presence.

The West Winds Gin hopes to raise up to AU$3.5m to help its international expansion

Established in 2011, West Winds Gin creates a range of expressions including London Dry style The Sabre (40% abv), “new world” style The Cutlass (50% abv), and a “big, bold aromatic” variant called The Broadside (58% abv).

More than 50% of the botanicals used in creating the gins are native to Australia. Botanicals include wattle seed, bush tomato, sea parsley, lemon myrtle, cinnamon myrtle, lemon peel, lime peel and coriander.

With a minimum fundraising target of AU$500,000, West Winds Gin has earmarked the money to provide working capital for bottles and packaging, gin distillation and production costs, excise, new product roll outs and supporting costs.

Furthermore, the funds will provide working capital to pay Australian government excise, invest in marketing campaigns, and enable the group to grow its international footprint.

The company’s portfolio is already distributed overseas in markets including the UK, New Zealand, Canada, France, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Cambodia.

The campaign will run on equity crowdfunding site Equitise until 5pm (AEST) on 17 July.
