Billy Walker selects single cask for Spirit of Speyside

GlenAllachie will release a limited-edition single cask bottling at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in May, hand-picked by master distiller Billy Walker.

The GlenAllachie Spirit of Speyside Festival 2018 whisky will be available

The GlenAllachie Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2018 expression has been aged for 12 years and bottled without chill filtration at cask strength (58.9% abv).

Only 1,028 bottles will be available to purchase exclusively from the festival, which runs from 3-7 May, at an RRP of £56 (US$78) for a 500ml bottle. Fans can get their hands on a bottle from The Whisky Shop in Dufftown and the Highlander Inn, Craigellachie.

Walker, who acquired the distillery in 2017 with a consortium of investors, will be hosting numerous “informal” sessions throughout the festival. Those who would like to have their bottles signed by Walker and hear about his plans for GlenAllachie should visit The Whisky Shop between 10.30am and 11.30am on 3 and 4 May, and the Highlander Inn from 1pm-2pm on the same days.

Walker said: “When we started the distillery, we all agreed that one of our key goals was to step away from the ‘big business’ corporate approach to whisky and have some fun releasing great whisky that we’re personally passionate about.

“As we’re independent and privately owned, we have the flexibility to do that and this special festival bottling is a great example of our philosophy.

“We’re fortunate to have a fantastic range of casks in the warehouses dating back to the 1970s and I personally selected this cask to showcase the GlenAllachie single malt and highlight the direction we’re taking at the distillery.”

The festival whisky follows the launch of six limited-edition single cask bottlings in February to mark the 50th anniversary of the distillery’s inaugural distillation on 17 February 1968.
