Tyrconnell 15yo Irish whiskey to launch in US

Beam Suntory is set to launch a limited-edition Irish whiskey in the US this month: The Tyrconnell 15 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish.

Tyrconnell 15 Year Old has been finished in Madeira wine casks

Bottled at 46% abv, the single malt has been matured for 15 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, before being finished in ex-Madeira wine casks.

The Tyrconnell 15 Year Old is the oldest expression from the brand and will be available in limited quantities in select US markets at an RRP of US$100 per 750ml bottle.

The whiskey was created at the Cooley Distillery in County Leath, Ireland.

Tasting notes include wafer biscuit, vanilla, banana bread and red fruit skin on the nose, leading to spice, stone fruits, peach melba and a “fresh herbaceous zest” on the palate. The finish is said to have notes of burnt orange peel and spice, with a “evergreen forest freshness”.

“We knew we had discovered something special when we first began experimenting with finishing The Tyrconnel in Madeira casks,” said John Cashman, global brand ambassador.

“Because we are in the fortunate position of being one of the oldest Irish whiskey-producing companies, we have the patience to wait 15 long years to present something truly remarkable.

“The 15-year-old Tyrconnell finished in Madeira casks is a beautifully rich and spicy spirit, one that I like to enjoy neat or over a few cubes.”
