Punch Room creates historical cocktail menu
By Amy HopkinsThe Punch Room at The London Edition hotel has launched the second volume in its ‘The Five’ menu, said to “celebrate the illustrious history” of Punch cocktails.
The Punch Room is based inside The London Edition hotel in FitzroviaThe Five: Volume II menu has been created by bar manager Andy Shannon, formerly of Calooh Callay, and head bartender Eric Van Oers, formerly of The Blind Pig.
While the first iteration of the menu highlighted the five main ingredients of Punch, the second volume celebrates five key moments in the history of the cocktail with five dedicated sections: Naval, Coffee House, Caribbean, North American, and Modern.
An additional section will give guests the opportunity to sample Punch classics.
The menu comes in the form of a book, with each chapter featuring illustrations from six artists: Alan Berry Rhys, Bene Rohlmann, Jake Foreman, Max Löffler, Otto Von Beach and Verónica Grech.
Each Punch on the menu costs £14 per person and can be served individually or in Punch Room’s exclusive range of vintage punch bowls.

Jacobs Punch
This cocktail is featured in the Coffee House section of the menu, which pays homage to the cafés and taverns of London where Punch was served in abundance and allowed landlords to avoid hefty tax bills. These establishments also introduced a key ingredient to Punch: tea.
Ingredients: Chocolate-washed Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Grey Goose vodka, Fair coffee liqueur, lime sherbet, keemun tea, wood betony
Turning Japanese
The Turning Japanese cocktail can also be found in the Coffee House chapter of the menu.
Ingredients: Portobello Japanese Edition gin with poppy seed, black sesame seed, sansho pepper, Japanese Sencha tea, watermelon, Kamm & Sons, yuzu
Milk and Two Sugars
Milk and Two Sugars is one of the Modern serves available. The chapter “pays homage to the creativity” of Punch in the modern era.
Ingredients: Earl Grey Belvedere Vodka, milk wash, mace syrup
Sorrel Wine
Featured in the Caribbean section, Sorrel Wine is a fragrant and tropical Punch. All serves in this chapter highlight the pinnacle role rum, sugar and lime have played in the evolution of Punch.
Ingredients: Hibiscus-infused Banks 5 rum, mango and pineapple shrub, lime juice, lemongrass tea, banana liqueur
