London bar debuts first ‘dogtails’ menu

Mayfair bar Smith & Whistle is marking National Pet Month with the launch of London’s first permanent ‘dogtails’ menu designed for “pampered pooches”.

The ‘dogtails’ will be served in goblets and are available in different portion sizes

In honour of National Pet Month next month, the Mayfair venue has launched what it claims is London’s first permanent drinks list for dogs, in collaboration with David Jackson, a specialist canine nutritionist.

The new menu consists of four drinks including the Poochie Colada – equal amounts kale and broccoli blended with coconut water, while the Hound’s Hops – a blend of specially brewed dog beer and fresh mint – will be available in single measures and as a sharing bowl.

The G&T: Ginger Tails combines fresh ginger and tonic for dogs, while the Bubbly Bow Wow features the UK’s only dog-friendly Prosecco with liquidised blueberries.

Each drink will be served in goblets and will be available in different portion sizes to allow owners to match a serve according to the size of their pet.

Paying homage to 2017’s most popular choice of dog name, the bar will also change its name to ‘Smith & Whistle & Max’ for April. The special makeover sees ‘& Max’ added to its name, along with paw-print designs added to menus and interiors, alongside walls adorned with portraits of furry friends.

Bruno Castro, bar manager at Smith & Whistle, said: “At Smith & Whistle we are well known for accommodating four-legged patrons but until now, we haven’t had a proper drinks offering for them.

“We’ve worked with David Jackson to make sure each of our ‘dogtails’ contribute to the essential nutrients needed by different breeds – we have drinks that promote glossy and healthy coats and ingredients that aid digestion, so our human guests can rest assured their canine companions are being well looked-after.”

The ‘dogtails’ are available from April and priced between £5-£6.50 and £10 for Hound’s Hops sharing option.
