Heinemann sails into American and Australasian cruise markets

Travel retail operator Gebr. Heinemann has signed a deal with Carnival Cruise Line, marking its entry into the American and Australasian cruise market.

Heinemann will begin operating retail spaces on four Carnival cruise ships operating in Australia and America

In the first quarter of 2018, Heinemann will begin managing over 1,200 square feet of retail space between four Carnival cruise ships: Liberty, Fantasy, Ecstasy and Spirit.

The German travel retail giant will be represented by its subsidiaries, Heinemann Americas and Heinemann Asia Pacific, on the ships.

Nadine Heubel, CEO of Heinemann Americas, said: “We are looking forward to working with Carnival Cruise Line and this new challenge of starting the first global partnership between Heinemann Americas and Heinemann Asia Pacific.”

The on-board retail spaces, redesigned by Heinemann, will be influenced by a “local sense of place”, a theme already implemented in Heinemann airport shops around the world.

The product range on Carnival’s ships will comprise perfume and cosmetics, liquor, tobacco and confectionery, and watches.

William Butler, vice president of retail for Carnival Cruise Line, said: “Carnival Cruise Line is committed to offering our guests the best shopping experiences at sea.

“We are thrilled to launch this fantastic new partnership with Heinemann and we look forward to introducing numerous new brands and retail concepts while creating an enhanced shopping environment for our guests.”

Last year, Heinemann opened a new duty free arrival shop in Norway’s Avinor Bergen Airport, doubling the size of the previous store.
