Masons spices up portfolio with new pepper flavour

Masons Yorkshire Gin has expanded its spirits portfolio with the launch of a new limited-edition release, called Peppered Pear Edition.

Masons Peppered Pear gin adds conference pears and pink peppercorns to spice up the flavour

Only 5000 bottles of the new flavour have been produced, following in the footsteps of other limited releases from the distillery such as Yorkshire Tea and Lavender.

Karl Mason, co-founder of Masons Dry Yorkshire Gin, said: “It was created when we took some samples home of a pear and rose gin we were creating. While we loved it, we found that when drinking it after having a mouthful of our extremely peppery meal, it transformed the flavour. So then it was back to the test still the following day adding pink and black peppercorns to the recipe.”

The new expression adds pink peppercorns and conference pears to the still, giving the gin “sweet, floral flavours” with notes of “pepper and pear while angelica and cassia add an earthier aspect”.

The small-batch distillery create its spirits in Steve and Leftie, the distillery’s copper alembic stills, in 200 litre batches.

Each 70cl bottle of Masons Gin is signed off with its own hand-written batch and bottle number.

Masons recently partnered with Yorkshire brewery Theakston’s with the hope of one bay barrel ageing its gin.

The new expression is available online for £39.99 for a 70cl bottle.
