SB Voices: A new era at The Spirits Business

SB’s new editor Amy Hopkins bids farewell to Kristiane Sherry and welcomes Melita Kiely back to The Spirits Business editorial team.

SB’s editorial team, old and new: Annie Hayes, Amy Hopkins, Kristiane Sherry, Nicola Carruthers, and Melita Kiely

It’s certainly a time of mixed emotions here at The Spirits Business, for today marks the last day the excellent Kristiane Sherry will act as SB’s editor, while we have also been lucky enough to welcome Melita Kiely back to our editorial team.

Since September 2015, Kristiane has taken our magazine and website from strength to strength, overseeing redesigns of both platforms, leading our editorial agenda with a firm focus on quality journalism, and managing our team with patience and encouragement – all the while with an infectious enthusiasm for the spirits industry. Her knowledge and expertise has also helped our Global Spirits Masters competition become stronger then ever.

We will certainly be sad to see Kristiane go, but we wish her all the best for her new role as editor at Master of Malt, where she will surely shine. I, for one, am truly grateful for her support over these last two years, and especially in recent months as I prepared to step into the role of editor.

I look forward to the challenge, and hope to ensure The Spirits Business remains an invaluable source of news and analysis about the spirits industry, for the spirits industry. Of course, I will not be doing this alone: the brilliant Annie Hayes and Nicola Carruthers remain at The Spirits Business as news, web and social editor and staff writer respectively.

Melita has rejoined our team as deputy editor from scotchwhisky.com, and has already hit the ground running. I very much look forward to working with Melita closely in the future, and have every confidence she will enable our magazine and website to excel even further.

The next few months promise to be an exciting time at The Spirits Business, and I’d love to hear what our readers think about our content, and what you’d like to see more of. Please do get in touch!

For now, I shall leave the final words to Kristiane Sherry: “It’s been an amazing two years at The Spirits Business, and it’s been an honour to work with the best team in spirits journalism. From breaking news stories to researching features and chairing The Global Spirits Masters, I’ve learned so much from the people here and our many friends and partners in the industry – thank you all for your much-valued input.

“I’m delighted that Amy is taking over as editor – she is a talented journalist with a passion for all things spirited, and under her guidance I have no doubt The Spirits Business and the wonderful team here will continue to go from strength to strength.”
