Douglas Laing releases 20yo Ben Nevis Scotch whisky

Scotch whisky bottler and blender Douglas Laing has unveiled the second single cask bottling in its limited edition Old Particular Consortium of Cards range – Ben Nevis 20 Years Old.

Ben Nevis 20 Year Old is the second release in the Old Particular Consortium of Cards range

Themed around a deck of playing cards, the new release follows Laphroaig 18 Years Old, which was unveiled in February 2017.

The Ben Nevis 20 Years Old is titled King of the Hills, and is said to deliver a “fruity, zesty and home-baked character”. It is matured in a single refill butt and bottled at 50% abv.

“Our Old Particular King of the Hills bottling honours Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain,” said Cara Laing, director of whisky.

“Conquering its peak is a personal challenge for many, and we believe our latest Consortium of Cards bottling, with its mellow, home-baked and warming character represents the ideal reward after an arduous climb – or any indeed any outdoor pursuit!”

This quarter, Douglas Laing will release 15 single cask malts and five single cask grains under the Old Particular label.

Among the new releases are an Old Particular Braeval 15 Years Old and a Glenrothes 12 Years Old, fully matured in a single Sherry butt.

Also from Speyside is a “magical” Mortlach 12 Years Old, whilst an Auchentoshan 16 Years Old, with “a warming nutty sweetness”, is a rare Lowland release from Douglas Laing.

Another release in the range will be Glen Keith, aged 21 Years Old, which is described as having a “lemon meringue pie, vanilla ice cream and flambéed orange” character.

Old Particular, a series of hand-selected aged single casks from all over Scotland, originally launched in 2013.

The range is available from specialist Scotch whisky retailers globally.
