Punch Room unveils The Five cocktail menu
By Nicola CarruthersPunch Room at The London Edition has launched a new cocktail menu called The Five that draws on the five distinct ingredients traditionally used to create Punch.
Punch a la Diable features on the Punch Room’s new cocktail listCreated by bar manager, Davide Segat, formerly of The Connaught, the 30-strong Punch menu features five sections: Spirit, Water and Tea, Citrus, Sugar, and Spice.
“This menu is a collection of our favourite Punches from the last three years as well as our take on Punches through the ages,” said Segat.
The Spirits section focuses on its “primary ingredients and place of origin”, while Citrus depicts sharper and more “palate-awakening” Punches. Sugar features Punches with “rudimentary, natural and unrefined” sugars for their complex flavour profile.
Handpicked by Henrietta Lovell of The Rare Tea Company, Water & Tea features teas which add a “lighter, more delicate and fragrant element” to the Punches.
The fifth section of the menu, Spice, includes a range of punches with more aromatic depth.
The menu also features a ‘Curious and Curiouser’ section, an experimental selection of cocktails using modern techniques. Alongside the new offering is a daily changing punch, and a house punch, which is available all year round.
The menu opens with a foreword from Jake Burger of Portobello Road Gin and The Ginstitute, who describes the history of Punch from its 17th century Indian Ocean origins to present day.
