Walsh Whiskey launches Irishman cocktail comp

Walsh Whiskey has partnered with UK importer Emporia Brands to launch its first cocktail competition for The Irishman brand, called The Cold Irishman.

Walsh Whiskey is to hold its first cocktail competition with The Irishman Founders Reserve

Both companies are seeking recipes from bartenders which put an “innovative twist” on signature serve, The Cold Irishman, which features The Irishman Founder’s Reserve as the base spirit, plus coffee, half-and-half and sugar syrup.

Up for grabs is a trip to Royal Oak, Walsh Whiskey’s new distillery, a VIP tour of the site and a tasting through the brand’s range.

While in Ireland at the distillery, the winner will recreate their serve for the founding Walsh family, VIPs and journalists.

To enter, bartenders must create an original recipe including at least 35ml of The Irishman Founder’s Reserve and no more than five ingredients – including the base spirit, excluding garnish.

Participants can submit their recipe, and details of the inspiration behind the drink, on the Emporia Brands website.

Entries open today, St Patrick’s Day, and close on 12 May.

The winner will be decided in both a blind tasting and from visits from an Emporia Brands representative to experience the recipe first-hand. Results will be announced on 19 May, the day before World Whisky Day, with the prize trip to take place later in 2017.

Walsh Whiskey officially opened its €25 million distillery in Royal Oak in June 2016 –  to see the distillery in pictures click here.
