Rachel Barrie, master blender at Beam Suntory division Morrison Bowmore Distillers, is to leave the role after more than five years to join Brown-Forman’s BenRiach Distillery Company.
Rachel Barrie is to join The BenRiach Distillery Company as master distiller
Barrie, who currently works across the Bowmore, Glen Garioch and Auchentoshan portfolios, announced the news in a statement on Facebook.
“It’s time for the next chapter in my never-ending whisky journey,” she wrote, confirming she will take over as whisky maker at GlenDronach, Glenglassaugh and BenRiach distilleries.
“So, I’m moving from the best job in the world to the best job in the world, all part of life’s great whisky adventure!”
Barrie’s career in whisky spans 26 years. Prior to joining Morrison Bowmore she held the position of whisky creator and master blender at The Glenmorangie Company and was responsible for whisky selection for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
She started her career as a research scientist at The Scotch Whisky Research Institute, before joining Macdonald & Muir Distillers as a quality lab manager.
Brown-Forman completed its takeover of The BenRiach Distillery Company in June 2016. It is unclear whether Billy Walker, current RenRiach master distiller, will remain with the firm.
