Le Clos smashes TR record with Macallan sale

Dubai-based luxury wine and spirits retailer Le Clos has broken the world record for largest ever travel retail transaction, selling an assortment of high-end Macallan single malt Scotch releases for US$500,000.

The sale, to an Asian collector, included a selection of The Macallan Fine & Rare bottlings from 1937 to 1990, plus The Macallan Golden Age of Travel edition, which features whisky distilled in 1937 and housed in one of 48 Lalique decanters. In addition, the sale included a Macallan Select Reserve 1946 bottling.

The Maritime & Mercantile International-owned retailer made the sale at its Dubai International Airport store, and breaks its own word record for a US$361,000 transaction in January 2016.

Last month, Le Clos received the largest global allocation of the limited edition Patrón En Lalique Serie 1 Extra Añejo at its Dubai International Concourse D store.
