Gary Neville to open Mahiki in Manchester

Former Manchester United and England footballer Gary Neville is set to open a new Mahiki tiki nightclub and bar venue next year.

The retired footballer has signed a 20-year lease on a building within the city’s business community, the Albert Estate.

Mahiki will be housed in a 4,437 square foot space in the estate as part of it expansion scheme, which has been boosted with a £28 million investment from landlord LJ Partnership.

The Polynesian and tiki-themed chain also has ventures in Dubai and London, a favoured hotspot for celebrities including Prince Harry and One Direction.

The club will add to Neville’s growing business and property portfolio in Manchester, which includes Hotel Football opposite Old Trafford.

The Manchester venue is due to open in spring 2017.

In August this year, Mahiki announced it was to create the “world’s biggest” Piña Colada at a new two-day festival called Spirit of Tiki.

Neville is not the only celebrity to open a bar – Bill Murray and his five brothers are set to open a second Caddyshack-themed bar – this time taking the concept to Illinois, US.
