Ardnamurchan releases 1yo ‘mature spirit’
Scotland’s new Ardnamurchan Distillery, opened in 2014, has sold out of its first release – a “mature spirit” too young to be called whisky.

Due “high interest” all 2,500 bottles of Ardnamurchan Spirit 2016 AD have now sold out, with Adelphi Distillery, parent company of Ardnamurchan Distillery, claiming it had orders for three times the number of bottles available.
“Prior to a launch we contact our UK and international agents and distributors to gauge interest and take pre-orders,” said Alex Bruce, managing director of Adelphi and the Ardnamurchan Distillery. “While it’s not unusual for there to be a healthy amount of interest in our whisky, the demand for our new Ardnamurchan Spirit was exceptionally high.
“We’ve produced 2500 bottles but we could have easily sold three times that amount. Pre-orders were 7500 at the last count.”
Ardnamurchan Spirit 2016 AD is a vatting of casks that had been maturing at the distillery since production started, which were then left to ‘marry’ in Sherry butts for three months. The bottling has been released as a one-year-old spirit.
“[O]ur Ardnamurchan Spirit 2016 AD has a remarkable nose, taste and deep colour for its age. The quality of it is superb,” added Bruce.
Located at Glenbeg, Lochaber, on the Ardnamurchan Estate, Ardnamurchan Distillery was opened the Princess Royal in July 2014.
Earlier this month, Adelphi Distillery partnered with Fusion Whisky Limited to release a Scotch and Indian whisky hybrid, containing liquid from Scotland’s Glen Elgin and The Macallan distilleries and India’s Amrut Distillery.
Its launch followed that of The Glover series of premium whiskies – containing whisky from Scotland and Japan.
