Portobello to open multi-million pound distillery

London’s fast-growing Portobello Road Gin is set to open a new multi-million pound distillery and “gin mecca” at its namesake site.

Portobello Road Gin’s new distillery and “gin mecca” will be based across four floors

Based in Notting Hill’s Portobello Road, the building will span four floors and feature a distillery, blending rooms, Spanish style ‘Gintonic’ bar and restaurant, a traditional gin shop, and specialist gin shop, and boutique guest rooms.

The distillery, set to open later this year, will also house The Ginstitute – a gin education and blending experience that was previously based in The Portobello Star, where Portobello Road Gin was founded.

The first product set to be produced at the new site will be Portobello Road Gin’s next annual Director’s Cut edition, planned for release in November this year.

“We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of the distillery on Portobello Road,” said Ged Feltham (pictured), co-founder of Portobello Road Gin.

“Our roots have played an important factor in the success of the brand and it’s incredibly exciting to be able to grow and continue producing in Notting Hill. The distillery will prove to be a mecca for all fans of the drink and will, we believe, become the finest address in gin.”

Initially, Portobello Road Gin was produced in a tiny still – ‘Coppernicus’ – at The Portobello Star but moved production to Thames Distillers in order to increase capacity.

In April last year, the brand revealed plans to invest heavily in expanding its business following a period of “exponential growth” which has seen Portobello Road become one of the UK’s fastest-growing gins.
