Ice cream hangover ‘cure’ hits South Korean shops

A convenience store chain in South Korea has launched an ice cream bar that claims to combat the after-effects of drinking alcohol.

A South Korean convenience store claims to have invented an ice cream bar that eases hangovers

The grapefruit-flavoured Gyeondyo-bar, which translates as “hang in there”, is said to be the “first” ice cream bar to be marketed as a hangover cure.

Its name is intended to “express the hardships of employees who have to suffer a working day after heavy drinking, as well as to provide comfort to those who have to come to work early after frequent nights of drinking”, according to the chain.

The ice cream contains 0.7% oriental raisin tree fruit juice, a traditional Korean hangover remedy that has also been scientifically proven to reduce symptoms of intoxication in rats.

Meanwhile, in North Korea, scientists claimed to have invented the “world’s first” hangover-free alcohol earlier this year.
