Hine marks Queen’s birthday with single vintages
The only Cognac house to hold a Royal Warrant, Hine has launched a pair of 1986 Anniversary Grande Champagne Cognacs in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Hine have released a Jarnac-matured and Early-Landed Cognac to mark the Queen’s birthday
To mark the Queen’s milestone celebration, Hine have released two 1986 vintage Cognacs – a Jarnac-matured and an Early-Landed.
Each year, Hine sets aside a few casks of Grande Champagne Cognacs to mature either in the 18th century cellars beneath their offices in Jarnac on the banks of the River Charente, or to be shipped in cask to the UK and matured as Early-Landed Cognac.
This particular Early-Landed expression was shipped in fine-grained French oak casks to Wickwar, near Bristol, at the end of 1988 to mature in dark, damp cellars.
Bernard Hine said: “We had a much colder than average winter in 1986 followed good sunny spells during the summer which are key ingredients for vinifying high quality wines for distillation into fine eaux-de-vie.
“Our 1986 Jarnac-matured has a powerful bouquet with fruity notes of white peach and hints of spice, with much complexity and a long finish on the palate.
“The 1986 Early-Landed is a truly exceptional Cognac with wonderful richness and an extensive range of floral aromas with mellow vanilla notes, hints of cedar wood and mountain honey on the palate rounding into a long velvety finish. ”
As with wine, the character and taste of a Vintage Cognac depends on the climate of that particular year, as well as cask and storage conditions during ageing. Hine’s Vintage cognacs are released at a minimum age of 20 years and are available in very limited quantities.
