Former Irish Deputy PM joins Quintessential

Former Irish Deputy Prime Minister Dick Spring has joined Quintessential Brands Ireland as non-executive director to assist the company in expanding its Irish drinks operations.

Dick Spring, former Irish Deputy Prime Minister, has joined Quintessential Brands Ireland

Spring’s appointment comes less than one month after Quintessential Brands acquired the Dublin Whiskey Company and took over the firm’s plans to build a new €10 million Irish whiskey distillery in Dublin.

The distillery will produce Quintessential Brands’ The Dublin Liberties and The Dubliner Irish whiskey brands, which are currently distilled at third party sites, and will be run by former Bushmills master distiller Darryl McNally.

In 2014, Quintessential acquired First Ireland Spirits Company and later invested €4m in doubling production at its facility in Abbeyleix, County Laois.

“I am delighted to welcome Dick to the Quintessential Brands Ireland team,” said Quintessential Brands’ CEO Warren Scott, who founded the company with former Gruppo Campari CEO Enzo Visone in 2011.

“His experience and business acumen will be invaluable in helping drive the growth of our Irish spirits business in both Ireland and in international markets.

“Our goal is to continue to diversify and expand our portfolio of Irish drinks brands and establish ourselves as a leading international player within the global drinks industry.”

Spring served three terms as Irish Deputy Prime Minister and also led the Irish Labour Party for 15 years, in addition to holding the executive posts of Minister for the Environment, Minister for Energy and Minister for Foreign Affairs within the Irish Government.

A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, he currently sits on several boards, including FEXCO Holdings, International Development Ireland Ltd., Alder Capital Ltd. and Goodbody Stockbrokers.

“I would like to thank Quintessential Brands Ireland for this opportunity,” said Spring.

“I was drawn by the clear vision Warren and Enzo have for the development of Quintessential Brands Ireland and their commitment to continuing to invest in Ireland and its world class spirits industry.”
