The Real McCoy Rum joins Instil Drinks Company

UK distributor Instil Drinks Company has added Barbados-based The Real McCoy Rum to its portfolio of brands.

The Real McCoy Rum joins Instil Drinks’ distribution portfolio in the UK

Last month, the firm revealed plans to add 14 new products to its range, the full portfolio of which will be unveiled at a London event on 1 March.

Instil said it was planning a company “re-launch” after “examining (its) range, listening to customer feedback and making management changes”.

After adding five artisanal gins – including Eden Mill and Jensen’s Gin – to its stable earlier this month, the group has now revealed that it will also distribute The Real McCoy Rum, a rum inspired the story of Prohibition rum runner Bill McCoy.

In January of 1920, McCoy was the first to fill a boat with alcohol in the Caribbean, sail it up to New York City, and legally act as a floating liquor store three miles off shore. He made a name for himself because he never adulterated the alcohol.

Today, the rum is made at the Foursquare distillery in Barbados using a combination of column and pot stills.

Instil Drinks will distribute The Real McCoy 3 Year Old Silver Rum, The Real McCoy Rum, The Real McCoy 5 Year Old and The Real McCoy 12 Year Old.

“We are predicting that artisan Rum is going to be big in 2016 so we are delighted to have signed The Real McCoy,” said Mark Johnson, managing director of Instil.

“Its unwavering commitment to quality makes it a brilliant match for Instil, and the story behind the product gives it a point of difference.

“We wanted to find something that would stand out from the competition in terms of flavour, image and story and we believe that we have found this with The Real McCoy.”
