Mandarin Oriental launches WhistlePig barrel-aged cocktail
Mandarin Oriental London’s Mandarin bar manager Sebastian Loeffler has created a new WhistlePig cocktail, aged on-site in a barrel straight from the brand.
London’s Mandarin Oriental has introduced a WhistlePig barrel-aged cocktail
With WhistlePig 10 Year Straight Rye Whiskey as the base, Loeffler says he wanted to create a well-balanced tribute to jazz composer and performer Louis Armstrong, known by his closest friends as Satchel Mo’ – or Satchel Mouth.
Punt e Mes was used to expand on the sweet aromas, while Dubonnet is said to bring out the aromatics, and Cynar and bitters were included for balance.
Three batches were each aged for 30 days and then blended together to for an even flavour.
“It is hard to find a similar cocktail but we think it is best placed somewhere between a Boulevardier and Manhattan,” the hotel team says.
Satchel Mouth ingredients:
- 4 parts WhistlePig 10 Year Straight Rye Whiskey
- 1 part Punt e Mes
- 1 part Cynar
- 1 part Dubonnet
- Dash Angostura
- ¼ part still water
Earlier this year, London’s Savoy Hotel announced it was sending a barrel-aged cocktail around the world with the Cunard cruise line.
