Savoy’s American Bar announces London-inspired cocktail menu
By Annie HayesThe Savoy hotel’s famous American Bar in London is set to launch The London Menu, a new cocktail list that takes guests “on a journey” through London’s heritage.
An illustration representing one of the new menu’s signature serves, Pickering PlaceAvailable from Monday January 18, the new menu will feature 24 drinks inspired by the six boroughs that surround The Savoy, referencing both iconic landmarks and lesser-known corners using a combination of theatre and storytelling.
Designed as an interactive guide through the ages, the menu touches on both historic events and modern references and is intended to solidify the American Bar and The Savoy as an integral part of the capital’s landscape.
Led by American Bar manager Declan McGurk, the new menu was crafted over many months by head bartender Erik Lorincz and his team.
One of the signature serves will be Pickering Place, a sharing experience inspired by its namesake which was the last known London site for a duel. The cocktails are accompanied by a short silent film to reflect this.
The London Menu also features the American Bar’s longest surviving cocktail, Green Park, and a cocktail dedicated to the Abbey Road studio, made famous in the 1960s.
There will also be a 1980s-inspired cocktail, Punk Rock, and a drink based around the Olympic Park of 2012.
Joe Wilson – the artist behind the pop-up menu at The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar – has created a series of hand-drawn illustrations to express the story behind each cocktail, of which there are four from each of the six boroughs.
McGurk says of the new menu: “Essentially when coming up with the concept, we wanted to do a menu that very much celebrated London as a city. In doing so we felt it would fit perfectly with the American Bar’s tradition of storytelling through cocktails.”
