JD single barrel Motörhead edition sells out
A single barrel limited edition Jack Daniel’s expression celebrating 40 years of the rock band Motörhead has sold out, as an online petition to rename the JD and cola serve ‘A Lemmy’ in memory of the band’s late founder attracts more than 43,000 signatures.
A JD release celebrating Motörhead has sold out
Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister passed away on 28 December aged 70, following a battle with cancer.
The much-loved singer was well known for his partying lifestyle. He once claimed in a documentary that he drank a bottle of Jack Daniel’s every day, and fans often associated him with the brand.
Drawing on the link, US-based retailer Atlantic City Bottle Company selected a Jack Daniel’s barrel for release to “celebrate 40 years of the loudest rock band on this planet”.
288 bottles of the resulting Motörhead Limited Edition: Special Jack Daniel’s Selected Single Barrel Whiskey were made available at US$99 and sold out almost immediately.
The retailer describes the liquid as “dark, oaky, but still some corn and sweetness with that signature Jack smooth charcoal smoky finish”.
Simultaneously, an online petition addressing “the entire world” has called for the “Jack Daniels and Coke” serve to be renamed ‘The Lemmy’.
The GimmeaLemmy campaign launched on 7 January and has since attracted more than 43,000 signatures.
Its founder implores: “To celebrate and remember one of rock and roll’s true legends, I petition everyone to henceforth and hereafter refer to the combination of Jack Daniels Whiskey and Coca-Cola as a ‘Lemmy’. Let it be so.”
The Jack Daniel’s petition follows a similar campaign to name a newly discovered heavy metal element after the Motörhead frontman.
