Bonhams HK set for first 2016 whisky auction

Bonhams has released the lot details of its first 2016 Old & Rare Whisky auction in Hong Kong, with Kaurizawa, Highland Park and Macallan expressions among the 395 lots.

By guide price, the most expensive lots include a Macallan Fine & Rare 1950 – 52 year old at HK$160,000-190,000 (£14,000-17,000, US$ 21,000-25,000); a Karuizawa 1960 –50 year old #3604 at HK$150,000-200,000 (£13,000-17,000, US$ 19,000-26,000); and a Macallan Fine & Rare 1947 – 15 year old at HK$160,000-190,000 (£14,000-17,000, US$21,000-25,000).

Older whiskies include a 1902 Highland Park Reserve bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd with a guide price of HK$ 58,000-68,000 (£5,100-5,900, US$ 7,500-8,800); a 1936 Mortlach decanter from Gordon & MacPhail guided at HK$35,000-45,000 (£3,100-3,900, US$4,500-5,800); and a a 1947 Talisker also bottled by Gordon & MacPhail with a guide price of (HK$ 16,000-19,000 (£1,400-1,700, US$2,100-2,500).

Other Scotch offerings include expressions from Springbank, Port Ellen, and Littlemill; while Japanese bottlings include a number of releases from Hanyu’s Ichiro Card series.

Also featured are a raft of Bourbon expressions, inducing a Pappy Van Winkle 23YO Family Reserve bottle, plus releases from Heaven Hill and Booker’s.

The auction will take place on 22 January, with viewings taking place from 19-22 January at Bonhams Hong Kong Gallery, Admiralty site.
