First vodka from Dunnet Bay Distillery launches

Rock Rose Gin producer Dunnet Bay Distillery has extended its portfolio with its first foray into the vodka category – Holy Grass Vodka.

Dunnet Bay Distillery has launched its first vodka – Holy Grass Vodka

Launched in November, the vodka is made with local botanicals, including holy grass, which is also known as anthoxanthum nitens found on the banks near Thurso River, which adds a “distinct herbaceous flavour” to the vodka.

The vodka is distilled by husband and wife team Martin and Claire Murray, who have designed a “secret and completely unique” way to make vodka using a copper pot still and Caithness stone.

Holy Grass Vodka is also infused with a vapour of Highland apples and apple juice, said to “complement” the holy grass.

“Our Holy Grass Vodka is a tribute to Robert Dick, a legendary botanist from Tullibody, who lived in Thurso in the 1800s,” said Martin Murray, co-founder of Dunnet Bay Distillery.

“As with Rock Rose Gin, we wanted to create a spirit that captures and celebrates the heritage of Caithness and its local botanicals.

“We are excited to be entering the craft vodka sector with such a unique offering.”

Bottled at 41.5% abv, Holy Grass Vodka has an RRP of £34 per 700ml bottle.

Last month, Dunnet Bay Distillery also launched Navy Strength Rock Rose Gin.
