A bottle of 70-year-old Ararat Armenian brandy has sold at auction for £80,000

Held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of UK prime minister Winston Churchill’s death, the auction was sponsored by Albert II, Prince of Monaco.

The 70-year-old Ararat brandy was donated to the auction from the exclusive collection of Yerevan Brand Factory by Armen Sargsyan, Armenia’s ambassador to the UK.

The auction’s organisation was supported by Sargsyan, Monaco’s ambassador to the UK Evelyne Genta and Saudi Prince Al Waleed.

Among the items up for auction alongside the rare bottle of brandy were Churchill’s favourite drinks, cigars and famous clothing brands.

All auction proceeds will be donated to charities to support Prince Albert’s initiatives to reducing the effects of climate change, biodiversity preservation and combatting desertification.

In other auction news, a rare three-litre jeroboam of Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Cognac fetched nearly US$100,000 at auction last week.
