The Botanist launches ‘foraged’ initiative
Islay gin The Botanist is introducing an on-trade initiative where bartenders at key accounts are encouraged to take part in a competition by creating their own liquid using foraged ingredients.
The Botanist has introduced a foraging-themed initiative for UK key accounts
The brand will send The Botanist Infusers to accounts recognised for their experimental cocktail menus. For 31 days, bartenders will be able to use the infusers to create syrups and infused liquids from foraged ingredients, in order to develop unique cocktails.
At the end of the 31 days, each bar will put a cocktail forward for judging by a panel of experts, including a forager, chef, mixologist, and Abigail Clephane, The Botanist and Bruichladdich brand ambassador.
The winning bar will be gifted The Botanist Infuser, and its team taken to Islay on “a journey of discovery” and a “full botanical experience”.
The foraging-themed initiative represents one of the first times The Botanist Infusers have been used in mixology in the UK.
“Foraging is often used in haute cuisine, but not as widely in mixology,” said Jenia Matthews, Rémy Cointreau UK marketing manager.
“With foraging such an exciting concept and one that’s quite literally at the heart of The Botanist, we’re always encouraging experimentation for new flavours.
“There’s so much to discover in the world around us and you never know what has the potential to create a truly sensory experience.”
Clephane added: “We’re really excited about engaging with bartenders who share our passion for discovery and exploration.
“We can’t wait to see the journey of exploration unfold and the collection of innovative infusions – we’ve created the spirit and it’s now down to the bartenders to create the drinks!”
Distilled at the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. The Botanist is made from nine classic gin botanicals alongside 22 local herbs and flowers, all foraged from the hills, shores and bogs on the island.
Through the trade initiative, bartenders are encouraged to forage for ingredients in their local areas.
A final round The five cocktails will be judged in early December 2015.
The Botanist was a star performer in Rémy Cointreau’s Q1 results, released earlier this year.
