Cardiff Dry Gin to launch next month
By Amy HopkinsThe Wales-based Eccentric Gin Company is set to launch a Cardiff Dry Gin developed in collaboration with the Welsh public.
Cardiff Dry Gin has been developed in collaboration between The Eccentric Gin Distillery, bartenders and members of the Welsh publicThis summer, the micro-distillery presented three different styles of dry gin to bartenders and members of the public, who selected a “dry and sour” style featuring rosemary, sorrel, caraway and fennel seeds as their overall favourite.
“This has been a very exciting process that involved some of the best palates in the South Wales industry, but more importantly the Welsh public,” said distillery director James Grey. “The result is very interesting.”
Cardiff Dry Gin, bottled at 37.5% abv, will launch at the Gin Festival in Cardiff on 1 October.
Priced between £25 and £28, the gin will be available Fine Wines Direct, Cheers Wine Merchants, The Vineking, Loki Wines, Hammonds of Knutsford and Speciality Drinks, while the distillery is hoping to achieve further listings.
The initial batch will consist of 600 bottles, which are currently being labeled.
It was revealed in May this year that Eccentric Gin, based in the town of Llantrisant, had teamed up with a local trust to grow a rare variety of Croatian juniper.
“Due to the general decline of juniper bushes across the UK, we’ve largely relied upon imported dried juniper berries to craft our unique gins,” said the distillery.
“Having teamed up with the freemen of Llantrisant, we have been able to plant rare juniper bushes on common land that will allow us to add a whole new level of localness to our gin, which already uses a whole array of locally sourced botanicals.”
