Hennessy hires artist for limited edition bottle
Hennessy Cognac has teamed up with multi-disciplinary artist Ryan McGinness to design a limited edition fluorescent bottle to celebrate the brand’s 250th anniversary.
Hennessy Cognac VS Limited Edition is a collaboration between the Cognac house and artist Ryan McGinness
The label on the new Hennessy VS Limited Edition bottle features a “radiating pattern” in bright fluorescent colours that illuminate when the bottle is placed under a black light.
Hennessy VS Limited Edition is the fifth in a series that has witnessed the Cognac house partner with critically acclaimed artists including KAWS, Futura, Os Gemeos and Shepard Fairey.
“My process of combining elements and compounds to form mixtures parallels Hennessy’s artful blending of eaux-de-vie to create Cognac,” said McGinness. “The shared approach to our crafts is part science and part art.”
McGinness, who is known for using the “visual language” of contemporary symbology in his work, will commence a global tour with Hennessy in August, which will include visits to New York, Miami, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
“Ryan McGinness’ work reflects a fresh, energetic use of multiple elements – from colours to icons – to create designs of enduring impact,” commented Rodney Williams, executive vice president of spirit, Moet Hennessy USA. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Ryan McGinness during our 250th anniversary year.
“This new Hennessy VS Limited Edition bottle design embodies his passion and commitment to his craft, the same characteristics Hennessy has pursued since 1765.”
Hennessy VS Limited Edition is available in a 750ml bottle priced at an RRP of US$32.
In addition, a limited amount of deluxe sets and commemorative gift boxes have also been released with an RRP of US$150.
The deluxe set offers two individually numbered 750ml bottles with different adaptations of McGinness’ design, as well as a booklet providing an in-depth look at the collaboration and two exclusive artwork coasters.
