Berry Bros launches new NAS Glenrothes vintage
Berry Bros. & Rudd has launched a new no-age-statement Vintage Reserve expression from its Speyside distillery, The Glenrothes, in the UK.
Motion used character and flavour as a guide, rather than focusing on a pre-determined age
The Vintage Reserve expression is a combination of “carefully selected” vintages, aged in a variety of casks, from the last three decades.
The oldest of the casks offers “mellow oak and dried fruit” flavours, while the younger vintages add “soft, mature, sweet vanilla”, and the more youthful, “exuberance and lemon citrus notes”.
Malt master Gordon Motion hand-selected the casks to create the Vintage Reserve himself, using character and flavour as a guide, rather than focusing on a pre-determined age.
Ronnie Cox, The Glenrothes brand heritage director, said: “This is our most complex Reserve to date. Unlike other malts that bottle by age, we choose whiskies that represent the best of a particular year and marry them together when they are ready.
“That is in contrast to many distillers who bottle simply based on the age of a whisky. The emphasis is on the quality, taste and flavour of the whisky – not the age.”
The expression is bottled at 40% abv, and is available at The Whisky Exchange and Gordon & MacPhail at an RRP of £39.99.
Earlier this year, the brand launched the third expression in its Extraordinary Cask Collection series – The Glenrothes Single Cask 1968 priced at £5,500.
