Teeling Co. opens new Irish whiskey distillery

The Teeling Whiskey Company has officially opened the doors of its new €10 million Irish whiskey distillery – the first to be built in Dublin in more than 125 years..

Based in Newmarket Square in The Liberties, the Teeling Whiskey Distillery also features a visitors’ centre which will host tasting tours, a café, a bar, a private event space and a gift shop.

With three copper pot stills, the distillery has capacity to produce 500,000 litres of whiskey annually which will be dedicated to TWC’s own brands.

The Teeling Whiskey Distillery will be a revival of the original Teeling family-owned distillery that produced Irish whiskey in the area in the 18th century.

Plans for the distillery were first unveiled in January 2014. Its stills were first fired up in March this year, producing Teeling’s whiskey spirit.

“Today is a momentous day in the history of our company and something we have been working towards for the last three years,” said Jack Teeling, founder of TWC who runs the company in collaboration with his brother Stephen.

“We are delighted to officially open our brand new distillery and bring back the tradition of distilling to Dublin.  We are also looking forward to opening our doors to our first official visitors this weekend and we’re confident that our distillery will become a must-visit destination for tourists to Dublin from all over the world.”

More than 100 jobs were created during the construction phase of the distillery and 30 permanent jobs are planned following completion.

Teeling already sells its own range of Irish whiskeys, blended and bottled using third party-sourced liquid.

In October last year, the company completed its core range of no-age-statement Irish whiskey with a single malt matured in five different wine casks.
