BrewDog is set to open a craft distillery inside its Aberdeenshire-based brewhouse
The group’s new Granite City Craft Distillery will be based in its Ellon brewhouse and will feature custom-built pot and gin stills.
BrewDog will launch a range of spirits using its beers as a base, hinting at hop-infused gin and oak-aged spirits.
“Beer and spirits are intrinsically linked. With whisky, we share a common starting point (the mashing of grain), and with gin a proud British heritage,” a statement from the group read.
“Being based in northern Scotland, we have always wanted to shake up the world of distillation, the way the industry is being developed and innovated overseas.”
“Scotland isn’t going to be left behind on our watch. So we are developing the Granite City Craft Distillery, to light a fire under the UK spirits market.”
BrewDog suggested it was looking to move into spirits last July when it advertised for an “experienced” distiller to implement an independent spirits division.
Further details of the spirits division and BrewDog’s planned future brands have yet to be revealed.
