Bombay Sapphire debuts custom-made tonic app

Bombay Sapphire has given imbibers the chance to design a custom tonic to complement their personality through an iPad app.

Imbibers designed each tonic to match their personality

Attendees of the Tribeca Film Festival’s event Storyscapes had the chance to try out the custom tonic bar, called Tonic Journey, where they created one-off gin and tonic formulas to complement their palates.

The experience was made for mixologists at cocktail bars in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Las Vegas, before Bombay Sapphire chose to debut it at the event.

Gary Hayward, Bombay Sapphire brand ambassador, and Ira Koplowitz, founder of flavour science house Bittercube, guided guests on a “discovery” of their taste profiles, designed to match their individual personality.

Inputting data such as food preferences, character-based questions and travel destinations through a 45 minute questionnaire helped each individual create their bespoke flavour.

The experience also explained the history and science behind tonic recipes, including molecular structures of flavours and why they pair well together.

At the end, guests named their tonic, and designed and laid out the bottle label.

Within three weeks, a batch of tonic (enough to create between 40-45 of their bespoke gin and tonics) arrived at their home address.

Bombay Sapphire reportedly hopes to roll out the initiative to consumers in the future.
