Winner of Bacardi Legacy’s UK round revealed
Bartender Ally Martin of London’s Peg and Patriot has won the UK heat of the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition 2015.

Martin claimed the top spot with his cocktail The Young Cuban and will go on to represent the UK at the global final in Sydney, Australia this May.
His recipe, a combination of Bacardi Carta Blanca, lemon juice, orjeat, fino sherry, and dill, was announced as the winner during an intimate dinner hosted by Bacardi at the Clove Club on Old Street, London.
He joins fellow national winners Alissa Gabriel, representing Australia; Karim Mehdi for Dublin, Xaris Darras for Greece, Eric Ballard for the UAE, Jad Ballout for Lebanon, Mauricio Allende for Finland, Mathias Alsén for Norway, Jonas B Anderson for Copenhagen, Barney Toy for New Zealand, and Emil Åreng representing Sweden in the global final.
The competition requires bartenders to produce and present their innovative new cocktail, supporting the entry with a strong social media campaign, and attracting support from across the industry.
The finalists have been travelling the world to showcase their recipes, gaining listings and menu places in some of the world’s most well-known bars.
The Young Cuban campaign attracted “worldwide support”, featuring a plethora of social media initiatives across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the hosting of seminars and events, and the distribution 2,098 samples across five consumer events.
In addition,the cocktail was featured on menus or served as a special in 39 venues across 19 cities, with 7,965 sold worldwide over six months.
Bacardi’s Northern European brand ambassador, Shervene Shahbazkhani, said: “Ally’s Young Cuban campaign embodies everything we are looking for in a Bacardi Legacy winner. He considered every element in his promotional campaign from bespoke gift sets, masterclasses and highly interactive social media activity.
“His passion and determination gained him worldwide support and advocacy.”
Last year’s overall winner of the Bacardi Legacy Competition was UK bartender Tom Walker, of the American Bar at The Savoy.
