Bethenny Frankel reportedly launching Skinnygirl Marijuana

Bethenny Frankel, the founder of Skinnygirl cocktails, has been spotted visiting a cannabis dispensary in the US amid claims she is to launch Skinnygirl Marijuana.

Bethenny Frankel  is reportedly interested in launching a marijuana-flavoured Skinnygirl cocktail

The reality TV star was snapped leaving the Green Dragon cannabis dispensary in Aspen, Colorado last month.

Her visit has fuelled speculation that Frankel intends to launch a strain of cannabis that doesn’t give the user “the munchies”.

It’s thought the product would be entirely separate to the ready-to-drink cocktails, flavoured vodkas and low-calorie wines already under the Skinnygirl brand, which are owned by Beam Suntory.

According to sources quoted by Us Weekly Magazine, Frankel is keen to capitalise on the profitability of the legal cannabis market.

“It will be a specially engineered strain of pot designed to not give you the munchies,” the source said. “She read about how profitable the cannabis industry is and wants to get in on that.”

A spokesperson for Beam Suntory said: “We do not comment on rumours or anything unrelated to the Skinnygirl cocktails.”

The US drinks group acquired Frankel’s Skinnygirl brand in March 2011 for an undisclosed sum, although the TV star still owns several other unrelated products under the brand, including dips and sparkling water.

Sales of the Skinnygirl cocktails, which include flavours such as Sweet’arita and Sangria, fell 26% in 2013. Beam Suntory CEO Matt Shattock has said the group’s introduction of new innovations such as low-calorie wines and flavoured vodkas has been in an effort to reenergise growth.
