Suntory to ramp up prices of Yamazaki whisky
Japanese drinks group Suntory is to hike up the prices of its Yamazaki, Hibiki and Hakushu whisky brands next year due to the soaring cost of raw materials.
Suntory will increase the prices of its super-premium Japanese whisky brands next year, including award-winning Yamazaki
As reported by Bloomberg, Suntory revealed it will raise its whisky prices by between 16% and 25% from the beginning of April next year – the first time the group has increased its RRPs in seven years.
This will mean an average bottle of single malt Yamazaki whisky will increase from 7,000 yen (US$59.61) to 8,500 yen (US$68.25). The group will also increase its prices for its imported brands including The Macallan, Laphroaig and The Balvenie.
In November this year, whisky expert Jim Murray named Suntory’s Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 the “best whisky in the world” in his Whisky Bible 2015.
Suntory’s whisky portfolio merged with that of Beam after the Japanese firm acquired the US maker of Courvoisier and Jim Beam in a US$16 billion deal.
Convenience store executive Takeshi Niinami was appointed president of Suntory in July this year, marking the first time somebody from outside of the founding family has been put forward for the role.
