How did these spirits perform in 2014?
By Amy HopkinsThere have been many economic, political and cultural swifts which have impacted the world of spirits over the past 12 months, but did the predicted fortunes of our brands to watch 2014 cme to fruition?
We take a look back at which spirits brands we predicted would be ones to watch in 2014
While interest and investment in the spirits industry continued to soar in 2014, the overall performance of different categories – from Cognac to vodka – was a mixed bag, meaning some the annual story of some brands was markedly different to others.
In particular, the long-running and dramatic slowdown of the high-end spirits market in China hit sales of Scotch and Cognac, meaning international drinks groups have seen extraordinary declines in their profits. Meanwhile, political tensions the Middle East and Eastern Europe have also caused some degree of panic among firms.
But hindsight is a wonderful thing, and success or failure is never guaranteed in international, consumer industries such as spirits.
Back in December last year, The Spirits Business predicted what surprises 2014 would have in store, and selected the brands we believed would hold the most promise in the year.
