Tomatin Scotch distillery increases Sherry focus

Highland Scotch whisky distillery Tomatin has released a number of new limited editions aged in Sherry butts, four from a brand new range and another from its Cù Bòcan label.

Cu Bocan: the Sherry Edition is part of Tomatin Distillery’s latest Sherry-focused releases

The Tomatin Cuatro Series is comprised of four limited edition bottlings of Tomatin single malt aged in different variations of Sherry casks.

All of the bottlings have first been aged in traditional American oak casks before being transferred to either fino, Manzanilla, oloroso or pedro ximinez casks to age for an additional three years.

To emphasis is Spanish inspiration, the range has been called Tomatin Cuatro, which is the Spanish word for “four”.

“We are constantly striving to innovate and push boundaries and I believe Cuatro is a great example of something yet again different from Tomatin Distillery,” said Graham Eunson, Tomatin distillery manager. “Sherry is a key feature within our core range and this limited series allows us to delve deeper into the different effects it can have on our whisky.”

The distillery has released 1,500 bottles of its new range, all with a 46% abv, at an RRP of £49.99 each.

Second in the distillery’s selection of Sherry cask-aged releases is Cù Bòcan: the Sherry Edition.

While the standard Cù Bòcan whisky, launched in September last year, is comprised of liquid aged in Sherry, virgin oak and Bourbon casks, the new release has been aged solely in Sherry butts.

Two more releases from the Cù Bòcan range aged solely in virgin oak and Bourbon casks are planned for release in 2015 to highlight the flavours of each cask type.

Tomatin has released 6,000 bottles of Cu Bocan: the Sherry Edition at an RRP of £49.99.
