Sweden’s Hernö Gin to quadruple capacity

Sweden’s Hernö Gin is quadrupling the capacity of its distillery to better cope with export demand from around the world.

Hernö’s existing gin distillery will be expanded more than four-fold

The company, led by founder and master distiller Jon Hillgren, is investing SEK2.5 million (£216,000) in expanding the distillery in Dala, Ångermanland, and building a new visitors’ centre.

A new stillhouse will be attached, taking the existing site from 80 sq m to 230 sq m, while two new stills will be installed in 2015 and 2016.

The distillery, which currently produces Hernö Swedish Excellence and Hernö Juniper Cask gins, will eventually increase its capacity from 25,000 litres annually, to 125,000 litres.

“With the new facility, the production capacity can be increased significantly without sacrificing craftsmanship principles,” Hillgren said.

“We are now beginning to establish ourselves firmly in the Swedish market and a number of European markets. These new investments will be the foundation for international expansion.”

Hernö intends to increase its presence in both Europe and North America in the near future.
