Suntory spirits merge with Beam portfolio

Suntory is to officially separate its beer and spirits units in order to join the portfolio of Beam SuntoryThe Japanese drinks group announced that effective from 1 October, its spirits and beer businesses will be run independently, with its spirits unit being fully integrated with that of Beam Suntory, its US-based subsidiary which was created after its US$16 billion acquisition of Beam Inc.
Suntory acquired Beam, producer of Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Courvoisier Cognac and Pinnacle vodka, in January this year, making it the world’s third largest drinks group behind Diageo and Pernod Ricard.
The integrated spirits portfolio of Beam Suntory, which now includes the Japanese group’s Yamazaki and Hibiki whiskies, will be distributed in-house in the US following a terminated distribution deal with Campari.
Beam Suntory is headquatered in in Beam’s main office in Deerfield Illinois, creating a stronger distribution presence for Suntory’s portfolio in the US.
