The Famous Grouse celebrates Commonwealth

The Famous Grouse has released a limited edition variant to mark the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Famous Grouse has released a 28-year-old Glenturret single malt to mark the upcoming Commonwealth Games

The Scotch brand, owned by Edrington, was also recently named the official whisky of the Commonwealth Games, which is set to take place on 23 July to 3 August.

Its new celebratory whisky is a bottling of Glenturret 1986 Cask Strength single malt, of which only 1,800 bottles will be available.

Glenturret single malt is said to be one of the key ingredients in The Famous Grouse blend.

The 1986 whisky – which was laid down the year the Scotland last hosted the Commonwealth Games – was hand selected by master blender Gordon Motion.

“When deliberating what to release it became apparent that Glenturret 1986 was the ideal choice and very timely,” he said.

“Glenturret is not only integral to The Famous Grouse blend but this batch was laid down to age in oak casks 28 years ago, the very year the Commonwealth Games last visited the home of Scotch whisky.”

The Famous Grouse has also been the official whisky partner of the Scottish Rugby Union for over 24 years.

In May this year, the brand saw the completion of the £250,000 refurbishment of its The Famous Grouse Experience, based at The Glenturret Distillery.
