The former chairman of Speyside Distillers has created a blackberry, sloe and jasmine liqueur in honour of the Brontë sisters.

Sir James Aykroyd, who has previously held senior roles with Buchanan’s whisky and Martini and Rosso, has launched Brontë Liqueur in the UK.

Having purchased the trademark from a Paraguayan producer, Sir Aykroyd has developed the brand and Yorkshire-based Brontë Liqueur Co. Ltd. into an homage to the Brontë sister novelists.

Proceeds from sales of the liqueur will be donated to the Brontë Society, of which Aykroyd is an active member.

“Back in 1928 my great grandfather – Sir James Roberts – bought the Haworth village parsonage and gifted it to the Brontë Society,” Aykroyd said.

“Today that building is the Brontë Parsonage Museum and this is something our family is immensely proud of – I still hold the key to the parsonage’s front door.”

Brontë Liqueur is now available in the UK for specialist retailers and high end on-trade accounts for an RRP of £27 for a 700ml bottle. Plans are afoot to develop the liqueur into an international brand, and the group has contacted importers in Russia, Scandinavia, Spain, Japan, UAE, Canada and the US already.

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë are well known for having written several highy regarded novels and poems during the mid-19th century, including Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.
