World’s first tea-flavoured moonshine launches

The Prohibition spirits trend continues in the US with the launch of American Born, a new range of moonshine products which includes the world’s first tea-flavoured moonshine.

American Born, a range of moonshine products, has launched in the US

Said to “honour the tradition of authentic mountain moonshine”, American Born has been created by Windy Hill Spirits and is now available in Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and California.

Available in flavours including Original, Apple Pie, and Dixie (sweet tea), each expression is bottled in a mason jar container, reflecting how moonshine was largely drank in the Prohibition era.

Windy Hill Spirits was founded by Pat Dillingham, a former Notre Dame quarterback, and Sean Koffel, a former US Marine Corps Captain, in 2012.

“Our goal with American Born is to provide consumers with a truly authentic product that tells the story of these strong Americans,” said Dillingham.

“We want to pay homage to those that have demonstrated the best American ingenuity and independence by making, running and selling moonshine whiskey in order for their families to survive during most difficult times in the history of our country.”

Both Dillingham and Koffel are said to have spent a year travelling the Appalachians and the greater American South before launching American Born, spending time with families, hearing first-hand accounts of moonshining and bootlegging.

Bottled at 51.1% abv, American Born Moonshine is an an un-aged corn whiskey made from a blend of corn, sugar and water.

American Born Moonshine Dixie is said to be the first-ever sweet tea-flavored moonshine. All three flavours in the range carry an average RRP of US$25.
