Milk Money Vodka launches in the US

New Zealand-produced Milk Money Vodka, a vodka distilled entirely from milk, is launching in the US this month.

Imported from New Zealand where it is developed and owned by a family of cow-loving dairy farmers, Milk Money Vodka is uniquely distilled from milk sugars with its producers promising “udder satisfaction”.

The new release is being rolled out by Leche Spirits to selected stores in Colorado on 15 January before being launched in New Mexico on 1 February.

“Because the product is so different, we’ve had a tough time convincing distributors to pick us up, but slowly they’re coming around as more and more people demand the vodka distilled from milk,” said Garren Vissar, president of Leche Spirits.

“Once you try it, you’ll know you’re drinking something in a category of its own.”

The vodka is 40% abv and described as having a “full bodied taste” with a “clean sweet finish”.

Leche Spirits, of Roswell, New Mexico, hired Saxco International to design the packaging to replicate a traditional milk bottle, which along with the brand name is designed to create a nostalgic effect.

“My family has been in the dairy industry for generations going all the way back to The Netherlands,” Vissar said.

“Milk money has always been used in a lot of different ways, but mostly, it’s what puts the bread on the table.

“It also has a strong nostalgic effect along with the bottle to give that feeling of better days, when all you needed was a little milk money – being carefree and knowing you have enough to get by.”

Milk Money Vodka has a suggested RRP of US$19.99 per 750ml bottle.

In May 2012, Dorset farmer Jason Barber launched an English milk vodka named Black Cow Vodka, which he claimed was a “world first”.
